Electric Guitars
An electric guitar is a musical instrument that is very much like
an acoustic guitar, except that it is usually not hollow bodied. There are hollow bodied electrics, but what makes
an electric guitar different from an acoustic guitar is that an electric guitar relies on the electronic pickups to
produce the sound, while an acoustic guitar relies on the natural resonance of the body to build the
sound.
Most electric guitars have six strings, have one or more pickups, and may
or may not have knobs on them that control volume, tone, and pickup selection. Electric guitars are used for
almost all styles of music, including rock, blues, jazz, country, metal, soul, and about everything in
between!
One thing about an electric guitar is that it needs amplification
to really be heard properly. For this reason, guitar amps are almost as popular as electric guitars themselves. The
guitar amp that a guitar player chooses may have an array of different effects built into it, but may also have
external effects in the form of modules, processors, or pedals looped through it.
Most of a guitar's sound comes from two things....the pickups in
the guitar, and what type of amp you are using.
There are a lot of people who enjoy collecting vintage electric
guitars. In fact, some types of guitars are considered an investment because they actually increase in value over
time....unlike a car or something else like that, which actually depreciates.
Similar to left handed bass guitars, buying an electric
guitar usually involves going to a music store and trying some out. However, you can also order them on the
internet from various online retailers. Some of the most popular brands of electric guitars include Gibson, Fender,
Epiphone, and Jackson.
